SUNI Committees

SUNI Committees are where, as the old saying goes, the rubber meets the road. Committees are made up of volunteers who love helping the community and meeting some neighbors in the process! Committees are always looking for volunteers who have time and energy and ideas. The best place to get involved is to join a committee and try to make a difference.

Calling all creatives...What is a brand? A brand is more than a logo identity or an advertising campaign. Our brand should express the personality, purpose and aspirations of our association and community. The SUNI brand is expressed consistently through our new logo, font, color palette, imagery, messaging, products, services and even how we work together. It should be central to all we do. This brand is meant to inspire change and growth and demonstrate that there is vision and momentum to the community’s direction.

The Branding/Design Committee is a new committee that is looking for volunteers with creative talents of all shapes and forms. Currently we interact with all of the other SUNI committees to make sure that we have a consistent voice and message in everything we do. This is no small task. The future of this committee is limitless and we seek an open and collaborative group of creative Sunnyside neighbors to help!

Business Sponsorship Committee

Committee Chairperson: Victoria Macaskill

The BSC works to garnish the business and financial support of local businesses through our sponsorship program. This is a recently formed committee that has now established members and an outlined plan for action. We meet, on average, once a month.Volunteers are responsible for approaching businesses in the community and educating them about our sponsorship program as well as asking for their support. Volunteers will be responsible for the relationship management of particular businesses.

Community Engagement Committee

This committee creates opportunities for neighbors to connect with each other, businesses, and the organization in fun and helpful ways. The Community Engagement committee organizes the monthly SUNI Sippers and other social events. We meet, on average, once a month. Neighbors who enjoy event planning, organization, and connecting people with each other would love this committee as we work together to work together to organize events that are both fun and that meet the needs of the community.

Environmental Action Committee (EAC)

The EAC is a passive committee newly established to inform and encourage response by EAC members on sustainability/environmental issues as they arise. No meetings are planned at this time. Member communications will be by email only to advise on various environment-related topics, and individuals are encouraged to advise the committee of specific areas of interest.

Friends of Chaffee Park

Committee Chairperson: Stephen Wilson

The SUNI Parks Committee (Friends of Chaffee Park) is focused on improvement of our parks and public space through active community involvement. We organize activities in the park as well as volunteer days for physical improvements. Last year we worked with The Park People to obtain grants for the new playground in Chaffee Park. On Build Day we had over 200 volunteers and the community constructed the playground in a single day! Our group meets as needed and we use this website to post meeting times and locations. If you would like to become a Friend of Chaffee Park, please let us know!

Originally crafted in the bylaws as a Board Officer Position, the committee now primarily interacts with other local neighborhood organizations to collaborate, coordinate and make sure that Sunnyside is represented within Northwest Denver.

The Membership Committee works within the community to educate and recruit new members to the organization. The committee meets once a month on average. Volunteers work closesly within the community to increase the number of members within the organization through various functions and events.

Newsletter Committee

The Sunnyside Newsletter Committee is a small all-volunteer group. This group is a recent convergence with the goal to continue to improve the newsletter. This group doesn’t meet too often, but does communicate regularly via email. However, the newsletter itself does go to print once a quarter, and communications increase at that time. The committee is looking to make the newsletter more consistent, timely and are going to start to try including advertisers again! Our group would greatly benefit from anyone looking to help improve the newsletter. We are always looking for content and ideas. If you joined this committee, you can expect to have fun, learn a thing or two and improve the community!

PCD (Planning & Community Development) Committee

Committee Chairperson: Eugene Howard

The SUNI PCD Committee serves the citizens of Sunnyside by representing the neighborhood with regard to planning and zoning matters between its residents, the city, RTD, developers and neighborhood business owners. The principal role of the committee is to advise and consult on zoning, planning and development matters as they affect Sunnyside, its residents and its future. The committee meets from 7-9PM on the first Monday of every month and is always welcoming of new, interested members from the community. So, if you love architecture, are planning a project for your property, have a zoning matter, or simply would like to participate in the future development of Sunnyside please use the form below to contact us and get involved!
